I thought it would be a good idea for me to look into the content of the lyrics, and analyse them to find out what they really mean and how I could use them to link with my own ideas. Having briefly looked at the images, it's clear that they are quite basic and are repeated throughout the song, so when I analyse it I will have to look at some deeper meanings as to why this might be.

"We feel like we're strangers" suggests feeling alone, paranoid, scared or not noticed/appreciated by the people around. From this, my music video could feature people at the beginning participating in their sport but not being recognised for the talent they really have, or not believing in themselves.
"If they never knew then maybe they'll name ya" suggests how the people around don't understand how passionate the people are, and are therefore being prejudiced towards them and 'naming them' before they 'know them'. This could link to my music video by including some aspect of bullying or prejudice, or an unappreciative family member/crowd, to show a struggle at the beginning.
"Dont let 'em change ya" is the last of the verse which stays with the audience, and is important because it offers some reassurance that even though people put you down or don't believe in you, they can't change you and only you know what you're capable of.

"When you finally find what's beautiful" quite literally discusses finding something that is so beautiful that it changes your life forever. This could link with my sporting concepts as it could show how their passion in their own sports is what they have found to finally change their lives, and that is what they feel is beautiful and wonderful. It also celebrates the fact people have passion and courage and participate in sports like the ones I will feature.
Repetition of the title of "wonderful" makes it clear to the audience that the song is indefinitely about finding that one thing that is beyond wonderful compared to others - and in my music video's case, it's the passion and drive of the athletes I will include.

"Screaming" for what the people think is right, and "breaking out" from their own self-consciousness and fighting for what they want - in my case, their right to perform well and be acknowledged for it.
It ends with the words "I need it" which really proves how longing the people are of needing to be recognised for their talents, and suggests the journey they have been through to get here.

Pre-chorus

This pre-chorus is quite interesting as it isn't the full chorus, as it goes straight into a Middle Eight example afterwards (lyrics with a different tempo or melody to the rest of the song). However, the reason for this structure is to bring back the importance of the word "wonderful" and the connotations it has towards the motive of the song - finding that one thing that's better than everything else (e.g. a passion/talent for sports).

This Middle Eight is quite important as it holds a different melody and tone to the rest of the song, and the artist says it rather than sings it. The use of the word "stars" being compared to the people connotes the image of celebrities/famous people, and therefore the image of idols. It then goes onto say "keep looking at me hard" as if this is the point at which the people finally realise they do have worth, and they have the potential to be stars.

"Inahle, steamin'" shows a change from the previous lyrics of "Exhale, breathe in" and rather it creating a sense of nervousness with fast breathing, this time the word "steamin'" adds a sense of anger as if the people are finally fed up of being treated bad. This could be the turning point in my music video of when the athletes become more determined.

This middle eight is used again right before the song finishes, to show the repetition of the sudden confidence they have grown and how it started off slow and has ended up with a resolved equilibrium.

This is an extra long version of the normal chorus that is used in the previous parts of the song, and now repeats the lines 6 times one after another. At this stage, my music video would have to be at it's climax and the reason for these words being repeated is that it must be obvious that they have finally found their "wonderful" and "beautiful" place in my video.

Surprisingly, this very self-conscious bridge is included again just before the ending, but I think the purpose of it this time is not the same as it was before. Instead of giving the impression the people were nervous or intimidated, this reflects on the past of them feeling like that and shows a change in them. It also draws to the fact that literally "everywhere we go we feel like we're strangers" and that people will "name ya" because people are forever judging people before they know their story - but it's states that its just life and something you have to accept, and then use to prove yourself better.

The song finally finishes on the main chorus being sung again, but with less instruments and rather just the voice of the artist, which is much more powerful and draws closer attention to the words used again. This would be a good ending for my music video as it shows how they have come from a bad beginning/past and have actually found "what's beautiful" and that 'it's so wonderful".
After looking through all of the lyrics, I can pick out parts of them which mean important things and are things that I should remember when creating my narrative. I have already included some examples of the parts of narratives I could link with certain lyrics, and again this will become more important for me when I actually start scripting next week.
Why have I done this?
The song is obviously an extremely important part of my coursework, and I have already noticed how the song and the music video of previously analysed work is so closely matched together so it was vital for me to do this. I know have a better understanding of the songs meaning and how it could link to the themes and story that I want to create.
